12 Lazy Cleaning Techniques That Actually Work
Cleaning doesn’t always have to take up time. Skip the complex processes and simplify it all. Turn it into a habit. Start your year with new cleaning habits. Here are some things you can do to make your life much more comfortable.
#1: Have a “throw it in” bin in every room
Keep a basket or storage bin in every room for things that might otherwise clutter your space. Aim for one that is neither too big nor too small, but just right. This straightforward technique is excellent for a quick pick-up and keeps the rooms look tidier.
#2: Keep emergency stain removal pads
Instantly remove tough stains like blood, coffee, wine, feces, grease, oil, and urine. You need this if you have kids and/or pets. Keep them handy for your carpets, area rugs, pet beds, car interiors, and more. Simply place the pad on the area and step on the pad to release the cleaning formula, and it will remove the stains without scrubbing.
#3: Make use of lemon and water for microwave clean up
The citric acid in the lemons helps to kill bacteria, mould, mildew and remove stains. To clean your microwave, measure about a half cup of water into the bowl. Squeeze a lemon and place the bowl in the microwave. Microwave for three minutes, so the liquid comes to a boil. After microwaving, open the door and carefully remove the bowl with the lemons. Wipe the inside of the microwave and don’t forget to clean the door!
#4: Take advantage of your dishwasher
Get the most out of your dishwasher. Use it for toys, brushes, sponges, and more. Your dishwasher can sanitise and shine almost anything that won't melt in super high temperatures. Make sure you’re using the top rack and turn off any dry heat settings.
#5: Squeegee your shower door after every bath
Since you’re already in the shower, just turn around and squeegee your shower door to prevent water and soap stains. Start from the top and put slight pressure onto the squeegee as you drag it down the glass. Repeat this until you’ve removed all the water droplets on your shower glass.
#6: Utilise sofa covers and mattress liners
Mattress and sofa covers aren’t just for the aesthetic look of your furniture. They alsohelp repel liquid and prevent dust, dirt, and other allergens. They serve many purposes, but best of all, they repel liquids.
So if you were to spill a drink in bed, have pets that sleep in the bed with you, or you frequently have night-sweats, you just need to remove your covers, put it in the laundry, and then done! You’ll have clean covers again, and your sofa and mattress stay clean.
#7: Use dryer sheets
Grab a dryer sheet and wipe down your window treatments to sweep up dust buildup from your blinds, then throw it away when it becomes dirty. Dryer sheets can also block odours in your trash. If your garbage is horrible, add a new and unused dryer sheet. The sheets will absorb stinky smells and leave a pleasant scent behind.
#8: Use liners for oven, stove, and fridge
Make your job a lot easier by using non-stick, heat-resistant liners that will catch drips or spills from your oven, stove, and fridge. Replace the liner once it gets dirty, or take out the liners and wipe them down or toss them in the dishwasher if they’re reusable. This is way easier than rolling up your sleeves to clean your oven, stove, and fridge.
#9: Use baking soda for trash bins
If your trash bin odours develop faster than you can clean your trash bin, sprinkle a baking soda in the bottom of the trash to help absorb any unpleasant odours.
Baking soda is also great to use for scrubbing your trash bin. It removes odours that may have seeped into it.
#10: Buy antimicrobial doormats
Antimicrobial doormats destroy germs and bacteria. They prevent contamination as it traps dirt, dust, and debris. As it profoundly cleans shoes and boots your floors, you and your family avoid tracking in dirt and harmful germs and bacteria. Having this in your home is not only great for just for quick cleaning but particularly useful at this time of COVID-19.
#11: Use cleaning slippers
Pull on a pair of your cleaning slippers and take a walk around the house—that’s all you need to do for a quick sweep of the floors. Microfiber slippers have soft material which magnets dirt, dust, and hair. The mop-bottoms of the silly slippers are detachable and machine washable.
